Confirmation

This sacrament is received in the Junior year of High School. However if your child has not received this sacrament and is older, they may receive it after special instructions. The class years prior to Confirmation are important years of formation. During this time concentration is focused on understanding the Catholic faith, sifting through the decision making skills and situations unique to this sacrament and completing a required number of hours and service aimed at this goal. Parents, if your child received the sacrament of baptism and or First Holy Communion at St. Catherine’s, you do not need to supply the following, however, parents of children that received these sacraments at another parish must turn in a copy of their Baptismal Certificate AND their First Holy Communion Certificate no later than OCTOBER 1st of this year.

Attendance during these years is an important step toward a solid faith foundation so the youth can make good decisions and understand what it means to say "yes" to the Sacrament of Confirmation. Students are required to attend the Confirmation retreat scheduled during the entire weekend beginning Friday night November 11th, and concluding with 10:30 AM Mass at St. Joan of Arc on Sunday November 13th .Parents are asked to attend that Mass with your child. The retreat this year will be held at the Tyme Out Retreat Center in Stone Bank WI. There will be a required parent informational meeting on Tuesday evening September 6th beginning at 7:00 PM at St. Catherine’s. At least one parent is asked to attend. The Archdiocese has confirmed a date for us, and the Sacrament will be celebrated the evening of Tuesday April 24th 2012 beginning at 7:00 PM The Presider will be the Most Reverend Archbishop Jerome E. Listecki, of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. We will celebrate the Sacrament with our linked "Sister" parish of Saint Joan of Arc, and this year it will take place right here at St. Catherine’s. The rehearsal is set for Thursday, April 19th at 6:00 PM sharp at St. Catherine’s.

Students are asked to select their "Confirmation Sponsor" immediately this fall, so that they will have time to have healthy conversations with them about this journey that they will take over the coming year. Sponsors FULL names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses are to be submitted in writing to Mr. Frederick in the Christian Formation Office NO LATER than DECEMBER 1,2011 with the form found on the last page of this handbook. The Sponsor may be a parent but we would prefer that NOT be the case. Sponsors must be chosen carefully and must be a person who is a practicing Roman Catholic. The students will also need to select their Confirmation Name this Fall if they have not already done so, and please be advised, Archbishop Listecki WILL ask each student individually about the Saint they chose and why during the Confirmation Liturgy.
